Long known as a center of intrigue, this city has captivated artists for millennia, and photographers since the invention of the camera.

Join Tom Carabasi, acclaimed photographer and educator, for an informal exploration of Istanbul-through-the-lens this July.

Tom not only heads the Department of Photography & Digital Imaging at the prestigious Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida, but he also enjoys a parallel career as a fusion and Jazz percussionist.

We couldn’t ask for a better study leader for this tour, which we have designed to take advantage of the 16th Annual Istanbul Jazz Festival calendar.

Because the actual Jazz concerts and other 2009 Festival events will not be announced until sometime in late May, we have not yet fixed the precise dates and costs for the tour. However, we have some detailed plans in place and do have close cost estimates for the program in Turkey (excluding airfares).

Because almost all the Jazz events will take place in the evening, our tour participants will be free to explore Istanbul with Tom and our professional guide each day.

Cymbal Under Construction
We’ll visit one of Istanbul’s workshops to watch
the hand-crafting of the world’s finest concert cymbals

So, whether you’re a music-buff or a photographer who would enjoy the gentle guidance of a pro, we’ve planned a program for you, one that’s full of the sights and the sounds of this beguiling city.

See the Jazz Festival overview and also the proposed day-by-day itinerary for July 2009.
